COMMENT-- A GREAT NON-ISSUE HITS SD NEWSPAPERS (((((((( A Disclaimer: I have been informed by staff at SD Public Radio that I have been banned from participating in the Noon Forums. Joan Russell was apparently greatly miffed about a comment I made during a discussion of the truly dumb and inappropriate attempt by state revenue agencies to get around the US Constitution in someway to collect sales or use taxes on internet sales, etc. Terry Harris has refused to respond to me by e-mail or Telephone. So, take my bias on this issue into consideration as you read the following.))))))))) A great non-issue hits the SD papers. Gubernatorial Primary Candidate Barnett is accused by Joan Russell of SD Public Radio forum of having somehow mysteriously misused a state asset for political purposes. The asset is not a state airplane flown to a private finance meeting, a state car driven recklessly over a state highway, a state computer, or even the state WATS lines. Nope, it is dinky digital picture found both on the Attorney General's SD page and also on his internet site promoting his candidacy for SD Governor. The links to those sites follow this rant. I downloaded the photo that got the Princess of Public Broadcasting Inanity off on a tangent searching for something less significant than a pea under a second mattress.. The size of the digital photo on the internet pages is about 144 x 100 pixels. Even a large high resolution picture of a politician would not be worth much unless as the saying goes "he was caught naked in bed with a dead teenage girl or a live teenage boy". No matter how much I disagree with some of the policies espoused by Barnett over the years, I have not heard anything to suggest anything "interesting" about his personal behavior. So, the Mistress of the Inane and Clueless Comments and Questions With The Hyper-inflated Self-View has gotten her name and South Dakota Public Broadcasting into an AP story by Joe Kafka. It must be one of the most empty political news stories since press fools started repeating GOP operative's lies about Gore's "lies" or Bob Barr started blathering about "impeachable offenses" by Bill Clinton. (At least the tiny digital picture should not set off a $73 Million wild goose chase). Today (April 4, 2002) on the SD Public Noon Forum, the Princess of Inanity hosted Terry Harris, Dir. of SD Public Radio, on a discussion of public radio per se and changes probable with federally-mandated shifts to digital radio and digital TV broadcasting. When concluding that discussion, comments between Harris and Joan Russell indicated that he had hired her. That by itself should be reason for the South Dakota Public TV Board to look seriously at replacing Harris and letting Joan Russell discuss elsewhere the color of curtains, tickets, ballet tutus, etc on some commercial broadcasting program highlighting the Color Preferences of the Semi-Rich and Mildly Famous Who Can't Decide What Color Or What Tree They Might Be. She was one of the reasons I seldom ever watched any news broadcasts from KSFY TV for many years (It still usually sucks air compared with KELO). Nothing about her performance on the SD Public Radio Forum suggests that she has learned much of anything in her "20 years of broadcast experience"....with the possible exception of some kind of self-preservation and self-aggrandizement. SD Public Broadcasting can do better...actually much better. They are now destroying one of the best radio discussion forums in South Dakota. There are real issues in South Dakota. We really don't need tangents on internet photos or what a candidate's wife or step daughter think about a candidate's campaign, etc. etc. --- (c) Douglas WIken 2002.---- Opening page of South Dakota Attorney General with logo that includes photo of Mark B and 2 children Page with a formal office photo and biography .
