Comment-- All Seriousness Aside

By now probably every person in South Dakota has heard or seen a Barnett or Kirby TV ad. Both are
trying hard to be such conservative Republicans. One might think this was a race for the Atilla the Hun
seat. These guys sound so conservative that we did some really seriious investigation. Results? You
judge.

These guys are so conservative. How conservative are they? Well, they are so conservative that both of
them had their first wallets gold plated and mounted on a genuine walnut base with an engraved metal
plaque that says, "Virtue follows money in the Republican Party". I might have added, "No matter how
it was stolen"; but that is another story entirely.

And on another tangent, did anybody notice all the calls into the noon forum today on SD Public Radio?
I guess I didn't or I missed the call. Joan Russell, Princess of SD Public Radio Forums, had Ken Rudin, the
NPR politics analysist, on the program. Of course, she was asking horse race questions which at this
stage is the equivalent of reading tea leaves or goat guts. If you want to see what Rudin writes, go
to NPR.ORG and search for "Ken Rudin". Not Ken Prudin, Ken
Brudin, Ken Pruden, Ken Bruden, or whatever else it sounded like over the radio today.

He indicated an interest in political buttons, etc. today and his bio at NPR indicates he wrote the
ScuttleButton ?? internet contest. I actually remembered seeing that, but it is no longer being
run at the Washington Post.

Anyway...back to more substantive issues when my back feels a bit better. Nothing like a back ache
to destroy initiative. What is irritating is that I don't remember lifting anything heavy...just standing in
line at a discount store holding some bulky plastic storage tubs in front of me....apparently for too
long. But, with a few more ibuprofin, aspirin, and tylenol tablets and a bit of caution in movement, I
hope to be back to my usual form soon. Depressing political ads are not helping recovery however...even
if they do often border on some kind of black comedy. --------------- Douglas Wiken (c) 2002.

SDPB Forum Princees mostly keeps her mouth shut and a good program results
Prison camp photos
posted at SD Public Radio as supplement to noon forum.

SD Public Radio had an interesting program today. A guy who lives in Sioux City, Ia
was one of soldiers liberating a prison camp in Germany. He took about 18 photographs
which it happens are apparently the only photos taken on the day of liberation.

Apparently one of the prisoners liberated founded Commodore computers. He was
on the callin forum today. Indicated that he priced Commodore computers cheaply enough
that German young people could afford it and then could get actual information on the
holocaust since it was not something German adults talked about with their children.

The audio of the program can be found by following links
on the main SDPB radio page
I put the link to the photos up because the site uses
frames and their navigation setup usually sucks.

I know this does not justify anything that the Israelis may do, but it may explain the
reaction of some of them to what they perceive is an attempt to obliterate Israel.

What is happening now in that area is a direct consequence of Bush using terrorism
as the basis for all kinds of otherwise unjustifiable behavior. The Israelis are
exploiting the logical holes in the Bush position. Define something as terror and
any kind of reaction to it becomes defensible following the Bush logic.-------- Doug Wiken
