Spreading HIV around knowingly may put jock in prison
Argus on HIV at Huron SD
Huron HIV case widens to 70 people

BY KEVIN DOBBS

Argus Leader published: 4/27/02

Gov. Bill Janklow said the SiTanka Huron University student who had sex without disclosing that he had HIV may have recklessly sentenced an unsuspecting woman to death.

"This is no different than pointing a gun at somebody and pulling the trigger," Janklow said Friday, adding that HIV, which causes the lethal disease AIDS, "is a death sentence for anybody who gets it."

Nikko Briteramos, an 18-year-old Chicago native and freshman basketball player at the Huron school, was arrested Tuesday and charged with five felony counts after authorities said he had sex with a woman five times without disclosing that he had HIV.

A state law enacted in July 2000 made it illegal for people who know they are infected with the virus to expose others without consent.

Janklow also said an investigation of a sexual ring that spirals around Briteramos could last for several months and include hundreds of people in several states.

State officials are interviewing and testing everyone who had sexual contact with Briteramos or his partners or anyone with whom they have had sex or shared intravenous drug needles. It takes six months for lab tests to determine conclusively whether a person has HIV.

One person already tested gave the names of 70 others whom that person said should be tested, the governor said.

(((((((( More about this at site. TV news last night indicated the piece of shit was having sex with some gal when he was arrrested at
his dorm room. One might think this would dampen the enthusiasm of coaches for players from cities with significant levels of illegal drug use and
indiscriminant unprotected sexual relationships. There are some crimes in SD that are grossly over-punished. It would seem this is a case where
no punishment short of something that would violate US constitutional protection against cruel and unusual punishment would be sufficient. Spending
the rest of a probably stupidly shortened life in prison might also send some good messages to young people tempted to engage in illicit unprotected
sex or sharing needles for drugs and might make this place a bit less hospitable for those unfortunate enough to get HIV infection or AIDS because
of stupid behavior. One might have a bit more compassion for those afflicted with such diseases who got them because of corrupt blood
systems or medical screwups howver. --------- Douglas Wiken (c) 2002

BUSH SPEAKS AT RALLY AT SIOUX FALLS ARENA...GIVES ESSENTIALLY SAME SPEECH AS AT
WENTWORTH HE GAVE A FEW HOURS AGO. NOTHING NEW HERE EXCEPT THAT IT IS THE SAME
SET OF PLATITUDES HE HAS BEEN SPEWING SINCE SEPT 11.

Bush speaking at Thune Rally, Sioux Falls, SD April 24, 2002
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Thune: Thank You,
Thank you all very much for coming here today. In course of lifetime,
we meet a lot of people. Some we respect because of wh.............
Some we just like because they are pleasant to be around. If we are
truly lucky, we can work with sometbody with all these qualities.
You and I are lucky because we have a president who embodies all
these qualiities.
Our Pres, GWB possesess the moral quality to lead where others follow
the public polls. He has restored honor and dignity to the White House.
(Cheers from the hand-picked crowd)
He has provided leadership, strenght and comofrort in the long days since
September.......
He shares our SD values, He is our leader, commander in chief, etc. He is
also juist a heck of a nice guy.
Give me a warm welcome to yours, mine and America's President George W. Bush.
(Cheers relatively modest for a hand-picked crowd)
-----------------
Bush: Thank You all
Thank you very much for that warm welcome. I'm really glad I came back to
SD. John said I should come to SD, a few of my friends might show up.
I'm here because I am firmly committed to the idea that John Thune shoudl
be the next US Senator from SD.
\
I'm here to thank the good people from this stat4 who worked so hard for
our party. All those who man phone, lick envelopes, the grass roots support...
so incredibly important to our democracy. Turning out vote, talking to
neighbors,,,,etc.
It will be an important reason why John Thune gets elected next Novemember.
I want to than J. wife Kimberly for making the sacrifices.. again with the
he just married above ourselves. (((( Same line of BS as at Wentworth))))
I had the honor of sera. as gov of tex. I had honor of getting to know the
gov of your state. He is one of a kind. I am proud to be his friend. wWant
to thnak Janks wife. Rosenthal the party.
Says something about vitality of out party , et.c
(((phone rang))))
Not afraid to stand up for what he believes. Good to hear his voice that
stands above the shrill voice of DC.
Worked together. Worked together to make sure South Dakotans and Americans
got to keep more of their hard-earned dollars.
We understand we are spending the peoples money. We cut your taxes at exactly
the right time. When I came into office, our economy was grinding down.
I understand...goods and services, etc. ((((( same as line at Wentworth.))))
And we need a good farm bill. We don't need any more politics. Good farm
policy is good for economy and strenght of nation. We can feed our own people.
We are too dependant upon foreighn oil. One way to reduce that dependency is
to produce value added products such as ethanol.
I told people I was for ethanol.....etc....(((( samae line as at Wentworth))))
\
We must have ethanol for our air, our economy and our strenght.
My view of trade is that if we are good at somaething we should do it. We
have a competititve position on agriculutrea. I want free trade.
The house has passed, so should the Senate.
The good news is John Thune uinderstands that. He also knows we have been
compassionate about welfare. Our welfare reform has helped people. They have
gone to work.
Need to reauthorize. We need Thune as voice for reason and compassion and a voice
who will join me in promoting family .
Like the farmers here, I am an early m;orning fellow. I take dogs....etc.
Got a new r;ug, so dog does not spend much time there.
I read a threat assessment and it reminds me that my most imporatant job is
to protect the Am. Poeolel and to make sure the enemy does not hit us again.
I want you to know ;we take Homeland security seriously. I am happy to hear
what your gov. has done.
We are making sure our borders are securee...((((..same line as at Wentworth))))
We are spending money with first responders, police., emts, firemen, etc. I also
want to thank those of you in uniform here on behalf of a great nation.
We are doing everything to protect the American people. But surest way is to
track the killers down one by one and bring them to justice. (((( Same as at
Wentworth....same line about lawsuit...etc. ))))))))
They found out when it comes to protecting our freedoms. speech, etc. and if they
are threatened we will respond. If you have memebers in the armed forces thank
them on behalf of a grateful people and a commander in chief.
I said early you are for or gainst us ... much of world is for us. Harbor or
feed a killer, you are just as guilty as a killer and the Taliban regime found
out exactly what we mean5t.
It is so important for young Americans to undersstand.....same line as at
Wentworth about freeing rather than controlling...etc. School for girls ((( same
as at Wentworth))))
Proud of our unity etc. Proud of our values. Proud of the worth of every
individual without regard to religion, etc.
Significiant increases in military budget. Anytime we put troops inb harms
way, they must have best equip. training, and supp9ort of America.
And I have spent a significiant i;ncrease because it is a message for the long
haul. I don't have calendar on desk (((( same line as at Wentworth)))))
The second phase of the war. Hunting them down one at a time. They are
international killers.
No cave deep enough. They think they can run and hide, but the are going
to be disappointed. This is about more than one individual or one group.
When I talk about an axis of evil, I mean it. We will not tolerate regimes
of evil possessing weapons of mass distruction.
So I want to thank Americains in SD and elseawhere for their unity and resolve.
I am surae this will ensure lasting peace. Want peace so people can grow up
to their god-given potential.
And I also know out of this terrible evil can come incredible good.(( Same line
about loving neighbor, etc. as at Wentworath))))
If you want to fight evil, do some good. Acts of kindness,etc .((( same line
as at Wentworth 2 hours ago))))))))
There are pockets of despair and lonliness that can be solved by putting your
arms around somaetone in their time of need. This nation has succeeded becasue
we are a county of great ...........
Something needs to be served greater in our lives. Flight 93....(((( same as
line at Wentworth 2 hours ago)))))))
One guy said "Let's roll, and they drove the plane into the gorund to save lives."
It is the American spirit that spirit that ulitimate sacrifice, sense of responsiblity.
The new way is not to blame others. etc. New way is that we are responsible. If you
are mom or dad, you are arsponsible for loving that child. And nieghblor, etc.
I am optimistic that we will achieve peace. That we will ...
Thanks for giving me the privilege of searving this great land.
God Bless....
((((( Hail to the Chief, etc.))))))))
THis was very much the same speech as he gave at Wentworth, SD only about 2 hours ago.
Not one new idea in the whole time. Probably a half hour of speaking. Same
platitudes as spouted just a couple hours ago.
(((( Nice band music...stirring marches by ??????
President wandering around shaking a few hands, smiling. Secret service in front and
behind and along one side.
Announcer from KELO. He is throwing support behind john Thune. Back on podium shaking
Thune's hand.
Reporter is repeating the repeated platitudes. About 7500 people came to rally tonight.
He came to talk about important issues, but also to support Thune.
Hemmingsen of KELO says he more or less repeated the same speech with just a few
changes moving from Janklow to Thune.
Lund. back to Diane T outside of arena...We have Shcewback's from Sious Falls. Our
family has people in military. He is dynamic speaker and pro-defense. Have to have
a strong defense...etc. Thune is the man who can do the job. We are glad to be a
part o that. Repeating parts of the speech...the morning dog part....oh, that was
quite funny....He is most powerful man, but he is genuine....etc.........
((((((( No need to stick finger down throat to induce vomiting.)))))
Lund...Thanks Diane Tjete???
Taking a commerical break.. Time to quit typing and upload this mixture of typing
errors and screwups to the blog site. Enough Typing for the day.....
((((((( NOTE..This is very rough. Typed as he spoke. Errors abound, but with same from Wentworth,
should pretty well cover the gist of his ideas or the lack thereof. ---------- Douglas Wiken )))))))))))
BUSH VISITS WENTWORTH, SD ETHANOL PLANT. ROUGH SUMMARY OF
HIS SPEECH AND SOME OF THE PRESS COVERAGE
April 24, 2002. Bush at Wentworth, SD
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Dakota Ethanol.
Introduction.by Ron ofDE. Dakota Ethanol's finest hour is Bush visiting.

Introducing the President of the United States George W. Bush

Thank you very much, please be seated, thank you all

Thanks very much Ron. I thought Washington was windy, but
I'm from west texas, I'm used to wind.

Happy to be here talking about ag. Ann Vennemen here, etc.

She's doing a fine job.

Happy to see Gov. Janklow. We both married above our heads.
Sorry Laura isn't here.
She was a librarian who didn't care for politics or politicians.
I'm proud of her she has come a long way from a librarian to
a fine first lady.

Honored that Tom Daschle is here. I invited him to breakfast at
the White House. I appreciate both he and Sen. Johnson.

Also we have the only SD Rep. John Thune.

Want to talk about ag, but first want to talk about the war.
We are fighting against cold-blooded murderers and they still
want to hurt us. Janklow is on top of making our homeland
secure.

We have to do a better job of keeping track of who comes and
goes, stays in US.

Best way to secure the Homeland is chase these murders down
one by one and bring them to justice.

It is important. This war to secure the homeland, etc. is not
going to end soon. I don't have a timeline to quit. I don't
know what they were thinking when they attacked us. They apparently
assumed we would only file a lawsuit ; but we sent the US military.

My attitude is that we are in this for the long haul and we must
send that signal to all friends and foes. Must have military budget.

No caves for them to hide in. We are tough when it comes to defending
our country and we will get them one by one.

Also to know we are also a compassionate nation. We are not seeking
revenge, we are seeking justice. We did not go in as conquerors to
Afghanistan but as liberators. Now young girls can go to school in
Afg. We have a lot of work to do on the war front and making sure
Afg. can become a nation and defend itself.

Proud this is a unified country. War is not democrat or Repub, but
a people's fight. Very proud.

Attack did hit our economy. If we have people who can't find work.
Need to cut taxes to increase demand, etc that will increase demand
which will increase need for labor and mean mor e jobs.

The tax repeal taxaction included the repeal of the "death tax". The
Death tax is particularly hard on SD and Texas farmers. Not a fair
tax .. taxes again and again. (HARD TO DO IF SOMEBODY IS DEAD).

Time to get rid of the death tax forever.

Am Ag is important for US financial strength. Heading to Crawford
tonight. Everything there is related to agriculture. I have a
good handle on ag as part of the US economy. One way is to promote
value-added products. I said when I was running for Pres. that I
supported ethanol production and I meant it.

It is important for ag economoy and also important to energy
independence. Need to increase both demand and supply of alcohol.

Good for air, economy and national security.

Thank goodness we are self-sufficient in food, but we are not
in energy. Hopefully new energy policy will help conservation, etc.

The less reliant we are on foreign oil, the better off we are in America.

We produce more food than we need. We ought to see if we can sell
more food overseas. Need to embrace free and fair trade. Important that
when we are good at something. We have most productive farmers. We
need to take advantage of that.

No longer can ag be demoted to back street of trade negotiations will
be on the front burners now. Important that we get an energy and a
farm bill finished and get it to my desk.

Put an end to posturing and politics and get an energy bill and a
farm bill to my desk.

I want you to know that this great country is goi9ng to make good
decisions when it comes to peace.

We ....good, etc.

We are going to show that good overcomes evil every single time.

We can not only boast of a strong military and hopefully a strong
economy, but we can do small acts of kindness, etc. When we go to
Sunday school, syangougues, etc. Telling our children we love them.

The enemy hit us and that was evil, but something good will come
out of it. We will be stronger.

On the verge of doing away with "if it feels good do it". We are in
a day when we must be responsible for our own actions, etc.

It came to me with Flight 93. They drove the plane into the ground
to save other people's lives.

My call to you is that if you want to fight evil, do some good. Love
a neighbor like you would like to be loved your self.

I am President of the greatest nation on the face of the earth because
of its great people.

Thank you.....

Military music. Hail to the Chief, etc. Crowd milling around.

He got some pretty good
applause for about a dozen lines of the above. Mostly when he hit
the agriculture buttons and waved the flag. No video cameras were
allowed.

Sitting out here in the boondocks it is hard not to believe that some
of the high security may have more to do with making the flyweight look
like a heavy weight.

News people from KELO are blathering that people were disappointed to
not hear anything new about ethanol. Mostly flag waving. No specifics
on what he would push. Poked a bit at Daschle to get the bills to his
desk.

National news is more likely to put the war message on than any thing
he would say about ethanol, so he probably hit that just for the
potential for evening news coverage.

Steve Hemmingson, Doug Lund, and Angela Koneche.......discussing Bush and visit.

Lund thinks he is "no dummy for sure". Turned a $600,000 investment in
Texas Rangers into $14 Million.

Lund, I am a bit confused why they did not fly the helicopters to
Wentworth instead of landing them at Madison.

Hemminson asks what is the cost to get into the Thune rally.

How much does this all cost? An entire retinue of this and that.

Back to Wentworth. Kelo reporter asking some bystander what he thought
about ethanol etc. Of course he was impressed. (audience was hand-jpicked
after all.)

Kind of drizzling into insignificance. Time to fold this up as the
music moves into "God Bless America"..

Bush is now off to a John Thune Fundraiser. Still have not heard how
much those tickets cost.

Stacy Bauer of KELOLAND. Seems to be a good speech. No particular plugs
here for Thune of Janklow. Of course, might have to be careful about
what he said to maintain the part of the taxpayers paying for the trip.

Stacy Bauer waiting for Sen. Tim Johnson to get to her. John Bachman of KELO
will get to Johnson and Daschle.

What did you guys think? Daschle.. Great to hear the President put
ethanol of the national focus.

Johnson thought it was a good speech. Hit the ethanol topic and the
war situation.

Johns says, we are close to an ag bill. Senate bill has something about
ethanol, but house bill does not. Still negotiating. Daschle says that
may be done by end of week.

Bush has mentioned the war on terrorism. Will that hurt Johnson since
Bush is putting his war-derived popularity on the line for Thune.

Johnson does not think election will be determined by who Thune can
drag back into South Dakota.

Johnson says they are beating the anti-ethanol amendments back by votes
of about 60 to 40.

Back to KELO Studio.

Well, enough of this. Will shove it up to Blogcite as is without edit.
